OPERA NEXGEN ANNOUNCES FUN RACE IN SUPPORT OF 2021-2022 SEASON

September 20, 2021

Opera NexGen invites patrons to register for the Opera NexGen Fun Race, a remote fundraising event in support of the 2021-2022 season: two mainstage productions and six educational webinars in the Generation NOW series. Participants can run, walk, hike, roll, swim, jump, bike, or do any other activity of their choice for a 5k or 10k race on a date and time of their choosing between October 18 and October 31, 2021. Those interested in participating can learn more and register for $35 now through October 17, 2021, at operanexgen.org/funrace

“Because our two mainstage productions and six educational webinars are all presented online, we wanted to give our an opportunity to engage with us away from their computer screen,” says Maitri White, Development Director. “The Fun Race offers the perfect medium to counter that screen fatigue and engage with joyful movement, all in support of a more vibrant and accessible future for opera.”

After registration, participants will receive a suggested training calendar and a virtual bib. Each person will also have the opportunity for peer-to-peer fundraising on a personalized donation page. Those who raise $50 or more will be part of the Racer’s Club and receive an exclusive Opera NexGen reward. The top three fundraisers will join the Winner’s Circle and receive a social media shoutout, personalized thank you video and an exclusive Opera NexGen reward.

“The funds raised during the Fun Race will be crucial to the execution of our 2021-2022 season,” says Jaime Sharp, General Director. “We are deeply committed to compensating our artists and the contributions from this event will grant us the ability to do so.”

The 2021-2022 mainstage productions begin with Night Trip by Carlos Simon with libretto by Sandra Seaton, conducted by Donald Allen Lee III and directed by Kimille Howard. This one-night-only performance premieres on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 7:30 pm ET and will be followed by a talkback featuring members of the cast, artistic, and creative teams. Night Trip is followed by a women-led production of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice presented during International Women’s Month, conducted by Chelsea Gallo and directed by Lauren Lenz. Performances will run Friday, March 4, 2022 at 8:00 pm ET, and Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 4:00 pm ET.
