A word from our interns.

Each month, the interns of Opera NexGen reflect on their experiences and opportunities. Let’s take a look at what they have to say:

This month, we’ll be hearing from our Administration Intern, Ryu:

“This March, I was able to focus on communication with others and plan out upcoming events at Opera NexGen. In terms of communication, I have been discussing with the other interns how we should share our experiences at the organization in our upcoming gala. Furthermore, I have been helping out with planning the gala. I started planning in March, but I am continuing to work through April.

To start, I appreciate the communication resources that Opera NexGen provides, such as Slack. Slack has made communication with my overheads and with the other interns very easy, and it is a great program to use as many workplaces use Slack to communicate with others in an organization. With Slack, I have been able to discuss with the interns how we can share our experiences at Opera NexGen as a way of further closing our season. Collectively, we have decided on producing video clips of us each reflecting on the season. Working with others in the organization helped build the teamwork aspect of the internship and especially in building communication in the workplace. Although I have worked toward developing communication skills in the workplace, I am also planning out our upcoming end-of-season gala.

Throughout March and April, I am continuing to work on planning out the gala to mark the end of our season for Opera NexGen. As discussed earlier, I have worked with the other interns to plan out how we showcase our experiences and what we have learned throughout the internship in our upcoming gala. While I have been working out the intern segment of the gala, I have also been organizing and planning the gala as well. This month, I helped by proposing a rough draft of the gala and how it will unfold. With feedback, I was able to reorganize it in a way to accommodate more into the gala.

To conclude, communication and planning was a big role in this month. Meeting with the other interns and “fleshing out” the gala made up the bulk of this month, and I enjoyed having feedback and learning more in-depth about how essential planning is for major events like this.

-Ryu”
